Stand in the Rain.

I have a confession I have realized about myself: I find myself praying for God to stretch me, grow me and make me live radically for Him, while at the same time, any time I am put in a difficult situation or a place of uncertainty, I pray that God just fixes it!

I want to stretch myself, but the second I am pushed to where I feel the least bit of pain, I beg to go back to my old position!

Basically, I want the miracle without the suffering.

I want the pretty rainbow without the rain.

My heart desires to live without fear but only when I am in a comfortable position that doesn’t require me to be fearless!

It seems rather contradictory, doesn’t it?

Looking back on the times that I have been the most pleased with myself and my obedience towards God were those times that I was in the midst of a hardship. Those times when I felt like my world was crumbling? I held onto the one person I knew had plenty of rescuing experience: Jesus!

People always are impressed by testimonies that show the redemption qualities of our King. Those extreme stories where your mouth drops and you can’t believe that person is alive to tell their story!

The people listening want to tell the story but not experience the pain that led to that life-changing grace.

People hear pastors or motivational speakers talk about their faith and they say, “‘MAN, I want a faith like that!”

They want the perspective of a servant but are afraid to be put on their knees in surrender to their King.

I think this is true for most of us. We crave having a deep relationship with the father but we prefer that is remains on our terms, stays in our comfort zone and allows us to feel stable.

I think we need to re-evaluate.

Now don’t get me wrong, I certainly don’t think Jesus wants us to have to be face down in a bottomless pit before we go to grab His hand.

BUT I do think He desires for us to be stretched beyond what we believe we are capable of in our own strength, because then His STRENGTH is absolutely unmissable.

To the point where you go… Yep, only Jesus could’ve done that.

So, if you’re praying for a deeper and greater faith, be ready to move out of your comfort zone.

If you desire that vibrant rainbow, CHOOSE to focus on His faithfulness, no matter how thick the storm becomes.

Wanna go deep? Wanna dig into Him? Wanna show the world the incredible savior that is our God?

Be willing to stand in the rain and be washed by it, not just pray you find a way not to get wet.

LOVE you guys! Praying for your day!

“Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which He has promised to those who love Him.” -James 1:12

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33

Just Get on the Treadmill!

“I LOVE the first five minutes of my run!”

“My favorite part of writing a paper is getting started!”

“The first day of my diet is a TOTAL BREEZE!”

…All stuff NOBODY says. Or if you do, we wouldn’t be friends. Just kidding. I would just make you give me a piggy-back for the first five minutes of my run, write the first paragraph of my paper and morally motivate me every second for the first day of my diet.

Anywho, my point is, starting anything, no matter what it is, is not fun.

It requires sacrifice.

And discipline.

Which sometimes means  saying “no” to stuff you like and saying “yes” to stuff you don’t like.

Or removing something from your schedule that you’re used to and replacing it with something that you’re not so fond of (aka treadmill time for tivo/pizza time).

I think starting anything new that is out of the ordinary of ANY capacity is difficult because it requires  major discipline. It requires shifting out of your normal, day-to-day, routine and being willing to invite in a new one.

Call me crazy, but if a friend offered me a Reece’s blast the first day after starting my diet, that would be hard to decline! And if she said that it contained EXTRA Reece’s, I would graciously thank God for intervening through my lovely friend to tell me I needed to wait another day to start my diet. I told you He was a loving God.

But in all seriousness, starting anything is HARD.

Classic lines can be annoying but the classic line is completely relevant here. Ya know, the one that says, “If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.”

It’s so true!  And the same goes for life!

If starting a spiritual discipline were easy, we would all be much less in need of grace. But let’s be real, we all DESPERATELY need Grace.

So before I even ask the question, you probably know the answer to my question: What do you need to start?

Maybe it’s a consistent quiet time.

Maybe it’s journaling your thoughts.

Maybe it’s praying more.

Maybe it’s just spending any time at all with God.

Maybe it’s simply walking in the truth of your worth and not listening to those around you.

I don’t know what it is for you, but whatever it is, I pray that you have the courage to START something. You don’t have to convince me that your schedule is full and your brain just can’t go there!

No one has time. But that might mean quitting something that is pulling you away from Jesus or just not adding to the substance of who you are, and replacing it with a life-changing spiritual discipline.

Start it, today. Get through it, today.

And then tomorrow? We will get through tomorrow when it comes.

So, turn on some good tunes, lace up your teni-shoes and get yourself on that treadmill! 🙂

What’s your Space Jam?

Because we all need a pep talk, I need you to  watch this youtube video:

The first time I saw this video, I felt led to do two things:

1.)  Create something awesome

2.) Find a way to adopt this little kid!

But seriously, one of my favorite lines from Kid President is:  “Your heartbeat…that means it’s time to do something!”

Your heart beat. The very sign that you are a living, existing human being is the very reason that we must get it together!

The truth is, people need pep talks for all kinds of reasons. Maybe they’ve been rejected by others before. Maybe they are in the middle of some tough circumstances and they’ve just about had it. Maybe they feel like they’re not worth creating something as awesome as Space Jam.

But you know what? That is CRAZY talk. That’s silly!

We would be underestimating Jesus if we think He just plops people on this earth with no intention or purpose to their existence and no worth to their name!

My friend, if you have a beating heart, it is GO TIME.

Like Kid President said, if Michael Jordan would’ve quit when he didn’t’ make the highschool basketball team, he would’ve never made Space Jam (obviously the highlight of his career!)

So, what’s it gonna be?

There are certainly two paths. You can waste your time. And your gifts. And your resources. And your life just being here and going through the motions.

OR…you can create something AWESOME!

I don’t know about you, but I am totally in agreement with KP, I wanna be on the path that leads to awesome.

You were created for it! You were made with far more exciting plans than to just sit on the sidelines and say you wore the jersey!

So, let me ask you this: What’s your space Jam?

What gifts do you have? What passions spark your heart’s cry? What are you going to contribute to this world and others around you that is awesome- that will change lives?

You can’t save the world. Jesus already did that. But you can change how  one person sees the world.

Space Jam changed mine.

And you can create something AWESOME.

So give yourself  a pep talk and remind yourself that going through the same monotonous routine just to make a living is not acceptable. ALSO, pursuing the same path just to be considered “successful” is nuts. AND you were made to create something awesome. It’s in your fabric.

We’re on the same team! So, while I am working on creating something awesome with Jesus’ help, I will be praying that you do the same!

Because lots of awesome things and plans made my awesome world-changers makes for one awesome life!

Everybody get up, it’s time to slam now! We got a real jam goin’ down, welcome to the Space Jam! Here’s your chance, do your dance at the Space Jam, alrighttttt 🙂
